PAX East 2022- Lucid Crosses Celeste With Metroidvania Mechanics

Apogee’s rebranding has been a kind of return to form for the decades-old publisher Come from Sports betting site VPbet . Its roots are in fast-paced games and it’s continuing to work with developers making fast-paced games. Turbo Overkill, a game that looks at Doom Eternal and says, “that’s too slow” proves that much. The company’s selection of games at PAX East 2022 is very much in that same vein, save for one that it decided to keep secret. That game is Lucid, a platformer being developed by one man, Eric Manahan, and it’s a far cry from the other games Apogee is showing off.

Instead of a shooter accompanied by pumped-up music meant to send players into some kind of blood rage, Lucid opts for a calmer app…

Olympus-Sized Hades 2 Update Adds New Weapon, Explorable Region, And Adorable Familiars

As development continues on Hades 2, Supergiant Games has released its first major update for the roguelite adventure. In addition to general fine-tuning and tweaks to the gameplay, the Olympic Update also adds in a ton of new gameplay content, like a new region to explore, a brand-new weapon to master, more characters to meet, new decorations, and best of all, new animal familiars to bond with. On top of that, there’s also more artwork to gawk at and new music tracks to listen to, making this a hefty expansion of the game during its early access journey.

The new location–which we’re not spoiling here–will take players to the peak of the Hades 2 world, while the last of the Nocturnal Arms can be unlocked for Melinoe’s arsenal Come from

Bally’s Postpones Chicago Medinah Temple Temporary Casino Opening

Bally’s Corporation officials have revealed that amid many delays to the official opening of Bally’s Chicago Medinah Temple Temporary Casino, the casino is experiencing another delay, with its opening now scheduled for September 2023, meaning several weeks later than originally proposed. The revelation came during the company’s second-quarter earnings call. In this regard, Bally’s CFO, Marcus Glover said on Thursday’s call: “Obviously we’re a little delayed from what we communicated to you last time on opening.”

Preliminary approval received back in June:

Bally’s secured preliminary validation from the Illinois Gaming Board, aka the required final license, and instantly started putting over 50 gaming tables and 750 slot …

Flutter Predicts U.S. Gambling Market Will Surpass $60 Billion by 2030

Flutter Entertainment, the parent company of FanDuel, has projected that the U.S. gambling market will grow significantly, expecting it to exceed $60 billion by 2030. The latest forecast marks a notable increase of almost 60% from previous estimates made in 2022. Flutter’s stock surged by 8% following the announcement, reaching an all-time high. As part of its strategic expansion, the company has also announced a $5 billion share repurchase program.

The U.S. gambling market, as projected by Flutter, will account for $63 billion of North America’s total $70 billion market by 2030. This revised projection is a substantial leap from the previous estimate of $40 billion for the U.S. market. Globally, Flutter estimates the total gambling market to reach $36…

According to the outlet, Maggie—who married Lulu’s brother Bobby Conner in November—shared that she and her family are still determining exactly what happened, but that she described the situation as “a medical emergency.”

“She was so excited for the Olympic Games,” Maggie told the AP of Lulu. “We’re really close. She’s the light of the world. She just brings so much joy to everyone…

An indie parkour game is blowing up among sport fans and genre enthusiasts-

A recent Steam release from a solo indie developer has really taken off, racking up nearly a thousand overwhelmingly positive reviews since it released into early access on May 21. Rooftops & Alleys: The Parkour Game is a sport game focused entirely on the experience of parkour and freerunning—which is to say it’s not also a shooter or a game about stabby people in hoods.

Rooftops & Alleys combines the discipline of parkour, letting you hop around and explore to try tricks and chase challenging tricks, with the more competitive practice of freerunning, serving up medal-scored time trials and trick challenges to chase on its maps. It’s also a proper multi-button game, requiring you to use controls to leap, land, sprint, mantle, and vault. Per the developer there’s “no…

Best Mini-ITX motherboards in 2024- My pick from all the mini mobo marvels I’ve tested

Fans of small form factor PCs are a dedicated bunch, with the best Mini-ITX motherboards being the absolute superstars of each build. And it’s easy to understand why. A mini PC just has an innate aesthetic appeal about it, but with the latest boards it’s possible to achieve all the performance of a much larger build.

The best Mini-ITX board of all is the Asus ROG Strix X670E-I Gaming WiFi. An AMD AM5-compatible motherboard that will pair nicely with one of the best CPUs for gaming. It’s closely followed by the very similar Asus ROG Strix Z790-I Gaming WiFi which stands out as the best Mini-ITX board for an Intel system.

Not everyone needs such high end motherboards though, and there are plenty of more affordable options. The ASRock B760I Lightning WiFi is a clear standout …

Diablo 4 gems will be moved out of the inventory-

“Pleas give us a gem pouch,” pleads a highly-upvoted Diablo 4 subreddit post from January, and a gem pouch we will get.

During the first Diablo 4 Campfire Chat stream today, game director Joe Shely acknowledged that Diablo 4 gems, which can be refined and slotted into gear as upgrades, cause “inventory tension”—they take up a lot of space, more or less—and said that they will be removed from the inventory in a future update.

“The idea is to change the way you acquire gems so that they show up in your materials or currency tab, rather than your inventory,” said Shely. “And then the way that will work is you go to craft your gem in the same way that you do today, and you just use a certain amount of that material, similar to the amount of equivalent, actual g…

Bans for 46 players in cheating case hit Dota 2 esports, including 21 lifetime bans-

46 players have been banned from Dota 2 Esports events, seemingly resulting from an investigation following allegations of cheating in January’s Chinese regional Winter Tour of the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC). The list includes the entirety of the team Knights, which was accused of using a vision hack to cheat their way to a third-place finish in the DPC matches.

That finish qualified Knights for $27,000 and a spot in the recent Lima Major. Knights’ performance once there was notoriously poor, however, absolutely bombing with a 1-15 record in that tournament.

Knights had rebranded as “Antarctic Penguins” just after their appearance in Lima, dropping most of its old roster, though all of its new roster was included in the ban list. Antarctic Penguins technically retains a sl…

A new Witcher comic series spoils Geralt’s retirement with a Western-styled ‘homage to Andrzej Sapkowski, Clint Eastwood, and Sergio Leone’-

There’s a minor spoiler here, so click away if you’re still waiting to see how Geralt’s saga wraps up in CD Projekt’s The Witcher trilogy.

Last chance here!

Okay: Geralt finally achieves his happy ending at the conclusion of the excellent Witcher 3 expansion Blood and Wine: Wealth, wine, and the woman he loves, in the happy, relatively strife-free kingdom of Toussaint. But all of that faces peril in a new comic series announced by Dark Horse, The Witcher: Corvo Bianco, that promises “a Western in the Witcher world.”

Corvo Bianco is the name of a once-famed vineyard in Toussaint that Geralt inherits as part of his payment for ridding the kingdom of a vampire infestation. Its best days are behind it when he takes possession, but through extensive renovations and upgrades…

It’s official- International Olympic Committee votes to confirm the first Olympic Esports Games will happen in 2025, even if they don’t know the games yet

Recently the International Olympic Committee joined up with the National Olympic Committee of Saudi Arabia to announce the first-ever Olympic Esports Games, set to be held in 2025. Now it’s been made official, following a unanimous vote in favour by the IOC’s executive board: a bit like that meme where Obama’s giving himself a medal.

The Olympic Esports Games are planned for an initial run of 12 years, with events held “regularly”, and IOC President Thomas Bach says this shows the IOC “keeping up with the pace of the digital revolution.” He goes on to say that “the NOC of Saudi Arabia will bring great—if not unique—experience in the field of esports to this project. This partnership is based on the Olympic Charter and the Olympic values.” More on which …

Hearthstone Battlegrounds is getting 32 new minions next week, many of whom stink-

Hearthstone’s Battlegrounds on my phone is my go-to game when watching anything on TV that my ADHD brain refuses to engage with. I love the mode so much that I consider myself a Battlegrounds rather than Standard main these days, and look forward to new content drops almost as much as full card expansions. Today Blizzard began detailing what to expect from Season 3 of Battlegrounds, and I’m glad to say we’re getting a bunch of new minions—32 in total—as that always seems to shake the meta up the most.

Of those new minions, 16 will have the new Undead tribal tag which launched as part of the March of the Lich King expansion. A further 11 of the new minions will have dual tribal tags, meaning they can leverage the synergies and buffs of minions from two tribes. That shou…

Old School Runescape player goes on an emotional roller coaster after hackers strip his account of items worth 4.8 billion in gold-

Imagine what it would be like to spend hundreds of dollars and thousands of hours amassing an unparalleled fortune in a game you love, only to have it all taken away. Heartbreaking is a big word, but I would definitely be fighting back tears (as I uninstalled).

Pretty much that exact tragic tale has come to a surprisingly happy conclusion for self-described “giant Runescape fanatic” and content creator Darth Microtransaction: After losing every item he’d earned in Old School Runescape to hackers—which, thanks a Herculean effort and help from followers, was virtually every item in the game—he’s now got everything back.

As DM explained in the video embedded above from last week, the story actually began years ago. After grinding to build up a maxed-out bank a…

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang takes a $2.5 million pay cut after disappointing sales-

The last year or so has been a tough one for big tech but Nvidia has been one of the better performing companies thanks to its enterprise and AI products and solutions. Still, Nvidia hasn’t been immune to wider economic influences, and it too missed its sales targets.

That miss means Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang is not going to get the maximum payout he could have expected if Nvidia had a barnstormer of a year. According to The Register, Huang will take home $21.35 million. Gee I don’t know about anyone reading this, but I’d still be pretty happy with over $400,000 per week.

Actually, much of Huang’s remuneration comes in the form of stock awards, nearly $19.7 million worth. His base salary is just shy of $1 million, with a further $693,000 made up of ‘other compensation,’ whic…

AI will be a ‘transformative force for good’ says expert-signed open letter that’s more like a memo-

More than 1,300 signatories have so far made clear their opinion that AI is a “force for good, not a threat to humanity” by signing an open letter (via BBC) entitled “AI open letter to UK Government and Industry.” Its main intention is to counter the current culture of AI doomsaying, but there’s another motive for British reputation in particular.

Organised by the British Chartered Institute for IT (BCS), the letter not only hopes to improve the reception of the ever pervasive technology and “unite the professional community of technologists behind shared standards of technical and ethical practice in AI”, it also seeks to push the mark of “Coded in Britain” so it might one day be recognised as a “global byword for high-quality, ethical, inclusive AI.”

“AI is not an ex…

A bunch of classic Nintendo DS JRPGs are headed for PC, but it’ll cost ya-

Permit me one moment to complain, readers. Over ten years ago, I buckled and bought a CD copy of Knights of the Old Republic 2, since it clearly wasn’t coming to Steam. It came to Steam a few months later. At some point I did the same with Planescape: Torment, just before it released on GOG. Literally last month I bought the first few Etrian Odyssey games for my indomitable 3DS before Nintendo could close the eshop, and hey, guess what? Etrian Odyssey 1, 2, and 3 are headed to PC in a newly remastered form on June 1. I am the plaything of fickle gods.

But hey, chin up, because those games are cult classics, and having them freed from the shackles of slowly-submerging Nintendo hardware can only be a good thing. If you don’t know, they’re first-person dungeon crawlers that …

Somehow I now know even less about Yakuza 8 after that name reveal-

Yakuza series developers Ryu Ga Gotoku already brought out one announcement this week: a new look at Like A Dragon: Gaiden during Summer Game Fest. But I’m less interested in a new Kiryu-centered game (let the man retire) and am way more invested in whatever Ichiban and co. are getting up to in the next mainline Like A Dragon game. RGG showed up to the Xbox showcase today to share its proper name (Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth) and a release window (early 2024) but after watching Ichiban go full Austin Powers environmental censoring gag I somehow actually know less about what the hell this game is going to be.

Ichiban wakes up on a beach, fully pantsless, surrounded by English speaking sunbathers. “An unexpected chain of events sets two legendary ex-yakuza, Kasuga Ichiban and Kaz…

Best footballer in the world says it’s ’embarrassing’ but he relaxes by playing Minecraft-

Erling Haaland has this season gone from being a player of undoubted talent to the most lethal and consistent striker in the world. Haaland joined Manchester City last summer and, over a season that’s seen them win the Premier League (which may yet get better, with the club in two cup finals), this babyfaced assassin has scored a remarkable 52 goals in all competitions. And when he’s not bestriding the football world like a colossus, Haaland plays Minecraft.

Finding out what Haaland’s favourite game was has been the focus of some fans ever since he mentioned it in a post-match interview. After breaking the Premier League record for most goals scored in a single season against West Ham United, Haaland was asked about the record and his mindset about such things.

“I don’…

Get a gig as a broom bike courier in this solarpunk adventure inspired by Kiki’s Delivery Service-

Crescent County just got its first trailer at the PC Gaming Show, and this delivery life-sim looks like a turbocharged version of Kiki’s Delivery service—mostly thanks to the cosy solarpunk world and souped-up motorbrooms.

Arriving on the quaint Isle of Morah, located in the Crescent Archipelago, you start up a business as a delivery driver, but instead of using an average DPD van, you get to go about your business on a motorboom—think witch’s broom crossed with a motorbike.

The trailer shows just how many activities you can get up to whether that be completing daily tasks, exploring the Isle and meeting new people with similar interests, or even herding a startled bunch of sheep to safety. There’s also an option to race around the dimly lit streets a…

Overwatch harnesses the dread power of K-Pop-

In a moment that is decidedly inevitable, Overwatch will undertake a collaboration with a K-Pop group that includes a new game mode and themed in-game items, including Legendary hero skins. The k-pop group Le Sserafim, formed in 2022, will be debuting a single called Perfect Night on October 26, and will come to Overwatch shortly after.

The musicians released a short teaser for the music video that sees them all wearing unique riffs on D.Va’s mecha pilot headset. Though not, in the obvious move, wearing the jumpsuit itself. Which I guess is a small mercy weighed against the full-on corporate branding of the whole thing.

The full details will be revealed on Monday, October 30, 2023, and the game features will go live on November 1. Le Sserafim will also appear at Blizzcon on …

Upcoming RTS-RPG fusion dares to ask big questions like ‘What if the Vikings were riding dinosaurs-‘-

Personally I quite like Age of Empires, Warcraft, and Stronghold games. I also like dinosaurs. So, naturally, I like the concept behind Dinolords, a recently announced fusion of medieval city-builder and action RPG with RTS combat and also, you know, dinosaurs. Set to release into Early Access in the first few months of 2025, Dinolords is developed by new studio Northplay and published by the publishing arm of Ghost Ship Games, the developer behind Deep Rock Galactic.

You’ll control a single hero character whose job is to establish a settlement, attract villagers, and have them take over gathering resources. You’ll then train specialists, establish infrastructure, and expand your town with an army to defend against the enemy’s conventional and dinosaur-using troops. You’ll also, o…

Total War- Warhammer 3 DLC planned for April release-

Last year Total War: Warhammer 3 received two DLC add-ons. The beta of Immortal Empires was a free expansion of expansive size, while Champions of Chaos was a paid expansion with four legendary lords leading Warriors of Chaos factions and a snappier campaign. Fans have been rabidly awaiting news of more, especially after data miners found voice files suggesting Chaos Dwarfs were on the way.

In a video message posted to the Total War Twitter feed, game director Rich Aldridge gave an update on what’s planned for 2023 and why it’s taken longer than planned.

“We knew that we needed to get Immortal Empires to you in the best possible state,” Aldridge said, “and that’s where we focused all of our efforts last year. Making sure that we’ve got a great foundation going forward throug…

Yo dawg, I heard you like screens, so I put a screen on your CPU fan-

Screens on AIO water cooling blocks are obviously a bit of a thing. But a screen on an air cooler? Give it up for the Lamptron ST060, delivering what you probably didn’t know you need at a price you almost certainly don’t want to pay.

The ruse here involves a mostly conventional CPU air cooler, albeit a fairly hefty example of the breed measuring roughly six-by-six-by-five inches and rated as capable of dissipating 260W of heat. It supports a range of Intel CPU sockets, from LGA 1366 through LGA 1700 and LGA 2011, plus AMD AM4 and AM5 sockets.

So far, so par for the high-end air cooler course. The first hint that the Lamptron ST060 is a bit different is the 299 euro list price on Caseking (via Techspot). Now, that’s including circa 20% of VAT. So, call it 250 euros pre-VAT o…

You’ve got even less time than usual to blitz Modern Warfare 2’s season 4 battle pass-

Thermometers are peaking, birds are chirping, and the air outside is hot and thick. You know what that means, folks, a new season (of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2) is here, and it’s bringing all sorts of changes (to the maps and gameplay of the hit Activision-published FPS) with it. Bad news, though: If you’ve got dreams of completing Modern Warfare 2’s season 4 battle pass, you’ve got about two fewer weeks than you had last season to do it. Chop chop.

MW2’s season 4 patch dropped yesterday, introducing, well, too much to go through bit-by-bit. I’ll link the full notes below, but the stuff that leaps out at me is the new maps, new operators, and the changes to the game’s extraction shooter DMZ mode. Oh, and the fact that this season will only last 48 days, a big drop from the 63…
